Top Resources for Learning Outside the Classroom
The Community Language Support Program, funded by the Canadian Red Cross (CRC), aims to support the efforts of volunteer teachers who had mobilized in order to provide English language instruction to Syrian refugees in Renfrew and Lanark County. Through consultation with these groups, it was clear that volunteers were expending a great deal of time, money, and effort in order to gather teaching materials. There were two prominent challenges identified in surveys conducted at the beginning of the Community Language Support pilot project launched in 2017. The first challenge was finding readers that are both level- and age-appropriate for adult learners. The second was accessing free ESL resource material and strategies particularly for literacy learners.
